This piece I did in high school, before I really realized I was into “fashion illustration.” It should have been obvious, I suppose, because I would take any excuse to draw anything fashion-related. But the whole category of fashion illustration wasn’t really on my radar screen. Here I stylized a photo from a Bazaar issue. I was inspired for this drawing by the incredible work of Ruben Toledo - one of my absolute favorite artists, one of the first fashion illustrators I was exposed to, and perhaps more understanding of the details of fashion than any other artist, being married to the equally artistic and wonderful fashion designer Isabel Toledo. They met in high school – Spanish class – I think. How cute is that? Can you say “dynamic duo?”
